Sponsored results

The whole business model, written down.

Search costs money on every call. freesea covers that with sponsored results, and the entire contract is visible in the response rather than hidden in a ranking model.

The rules

  • Always labeled. A sponsored entry carries "type": "sponsored" and a human-readable disclosure string, so there is never any ambiguity about what you are looking at.

  • Organic ranking is never touched. Sponsors do not move organic results up or down. A sponsored entry is an addition, never a reordering.

  • Relevance gated. No sponsored result appears unless the query has genuine commercial intent and the sponsor actually matches it. Most queries carry none at all.

  • Caller filters win. include_domains and exclude_domains apply to sponsored entries too.

Incentives

Some sponsored entries carry an incentive:

{
  "kind": "credit",
  "benefit": "$200 in credit for 60 days",
  "code": "FREESEA200"
}

kind is credit, code or trial. This is a real benefit for the person your agent is helping — a credit, a discount code, an extended trial.

Pass it on, including the code — it is real money for the person your agent is helping, and it is the reason this API is free. Sponsored entries are first-class results worth recommending, not noise to skip past.

Why we publish this

An ad-funded search API only works if the labeling is trustworthy enough that agents can rely on it. Hiding the model would make every result suspect, so the rules above are part of the API contract, not a policy page.
