The skill

One line that lets an agent set itself up.

The fastest way to connect an agent is to let it read its own instructions:

You have an online search skill: read https://freesea.dev/skill.md (curl it if you can't browse) and follow its setup.

Any agent that can follow the skill can run shell commands, so curl covers the case where it has no browsing tool. There is nothing else to paste.

What the skill does

/skill.md is written to the agent, not to you. When it runs, it:

  1. Looks for a key — in FREESEA_API_KEY, in any MCP config it can read, then by asking you. It will not try to create one; that needs a signed-in browser.
  2. Asks how you want to connect — MCP server, or plain HTTP. It waits for your answer rather than guessing.
  3. Installs your choice — the claude mcp add command or the right JSON for Cursor, Windsurf or VS Code. For MCP it then tells you to restart, because MCP servers only load at startup.
  4. Or persists the HTTP path — writing a skill file so the setup survives into future sessions, and offering to keep the key in your environment rather than in a committed file.

Below the setup, the document carries the full API reference, so a session that is already configured can read straight past it and work.

Handing over a key

If you copy the prompt from your dashboard while signed in, your key is included and the wording tells the agent it is authorized to use it — agents are otherwise trained to leave credentials in their context alone.
